Instead of limiting herself to one identity, Naomi embraced multiple passions and built a career that reflects who she is fully. “And if I were to choose the most vital it would definitely be the FAITH of my Pastors, Leaders, Family and Experienced Friends in me and specially my housemate Deborah,” she states. That belief gave her the confidence to continue moving forward even during uncertain moments. Adjusting to life in a new country can feel isolating, especially when balancing work, studies, and future expectations. For Naomi, community became a source of strength that reminded her she did not have to navigate those experiences alone. Her connection to others also shaped how she sees success. Rather than focusing only on professional achievement, Naomi values relationships, mentorship, and the sense of belonging she found in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Naomi credits the Study and Stay NL program for helping her develop the practical and professional skills needed to navigate the Canadian workplace with confidence. For her, the biggest impact came from the opportunity to gain experience in areas that many students often struggle to access early in their careers. “The program gave me experience – formal writing, emailing, mentorship, networking; and experience is invaluable to me given the kind of learner I am,” she explains. Those experiences helped Naomi grow professionally while also becoming more comfortable in professional environments. Learning how to communicate formally, build networks, and connect with mentors gave her tools that continue to support her career progression today.
Along with that, one memory that still stands out clearly is her “first in-person meeting with my assigned Mentor.” That moment represented more than a professional introduction. It was a reminder that someone was willing to invest time, guidance, and belief in her future.
The program also helped Naomi understand the importance of staying connected with the community around her. Through workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities, she developed relationships that encouraged her to remain engaged and continue building her future in the province. “It fostered a desire in me to maintain touch with the community and that’s why I’m still dreaming till now,” she says.
Advice for New International Graduates
Naomi’s advice to new international students and graduates is deeply honest and encouraging. She believes growth often begins in moments of discomfort. “Who are you waiting for, go into those rooms where you feel like you don’t belong. Get uncomfortable with being too comfortable and whenever someone extends a hand, take it, don’t act too cautiously, but know your boundaries and learn what you need to do to protect them.” Her words reflect the mindset that helped her move forward throughout her journey. Instead of waiting until she felt completely ready, Naomi chose to step into opportunities, connect with people, and trust herself enough to grow through uncertainty. That courage continues to shape the person and professional she is becoming today.
